German brothers, 4 and 6, run away from home and cause more than $16,000 in damage
Two German brothers, ages 4 and 6, ran away from home and left behind a trail of $16,000 in damage, including stealing a gas burner, torching parts of a garage, flooding a basement and spray-painting cars, police announced Tuesday.
The boys, from the village of Kulmbach in the state of Bavaria, ran away from their home Monday afternoon, police spokesman Alexander Horn said.
During their time on the run, the boys stole a neighbor’s gas burner and lit parts of a garage on fire.
The fire was extinguished before authorities arrived, Austrian newspaper Kurier reported.
While searching for a fire extinguisher, the boys opened the door to another neighbor’s basement and caused it to flood, Rosenheim 24 reports.
They also got hold of a can of white spray paint, and painted a front door, garage door and two cars — one which was also scratched on the back, Kurier reported.
Police caught the boys after they were noticed by a neighbor, and with help from a welfare officer, they were returned to an “enthusiastic” mother — who may have not been as enthusiastic when police said she must pay the €15,000 (more than $16,700) in damage.
Officials are still investigating the boy’s actions and the damage that was caused.
