Former NYPD cop wounded by stray bullet leaving Brooklyn party

A former NYPD cop leaving a Brooklyn party was wounded by a stray bullet fired by a would-be reveler denied entry to the bash, police sources said Sunday.

The 31-year-old victim was blasted in the stomach when she exited an apartment building on Van Brunt St. near Hamilton Ave. in Red Hook about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, sources said.

A group of men angry they were turned away from the party began fighting nearby and shots were fired, police said.

A stray slug hit the woman in the torso. Medics rushed to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where she is expected to recover, police said. Nobody else was struck.

The victim was a member of the NYPD for seven years before leaving the force in May 2019, sources said.

The 30-year-old victim was blasted in the stomach on Van Brunt St. near Hamilton Ave. in Red Hook about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, sources said.

There were no immediate arrests.

The victim was one of 15 people shot across the city Saturday.

Shootings are up 72% citywide so far this year compared to the same period last year. As of Saturday, 410 people have been shot across the city this year compared to 238 by this time last year.
