The family of Jayme Closs, the 13-year-old Wisconsin kidnapping victim who broke free last week after spending months in captivity, are feeling gratitude after the teen’s brave escape.

“Surrounding her by love and making sure she’s safe … feels safe,” Closs’ aunt, Sue Allard, told CBS News This Morning of what the family will be doing following her return. “She’s doing pretty well.”

Another aunt, Lynn Closs, said Monday that having Jayme back is an “overwhelming, amazing, happy ending to such a horrible beginning.”

“The thing I wanted to express to her immediately … is the pride we have in her,” Lynn said.

“For doing this. For getting out. For making it. For the power that she has. You know, I mean, that she took the power away from this man.”

Jake Patterson, 21, was arrested for kidnapping Jayme and murdering her parents — James Closs, 56, and Denise Closs, 46.

A search for Jayme began Oct. 15, when her parents were found fatally shot in their Wisconsin home.

Closs’ cousin, Lindsey Smith, is still in shock with Jayme’s return.

“I just want to go over there, every day to my mom’s house and see Jayme. It’s amazing to see her home,” Smith said.

“She’s doing exceptionally well for what she went through,” Robert Naiberg, Jayme’s grandfather told The Associated Press on Sunday. “She’s in exceptionally good spirits.”

Patterson is expected to be formally charged Monday afternoon in Barron County Circuit Court.

He is being held on two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and one count of kidnapping.
