It’s a thumbs down.

Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp users worldwide were frustrated to find the social media apps down Wednesday afternoon.

Users first shared they were having issues around 12:15 p.m. ET.

Facebook users were unable to log in to the site, due to “required maintenance,” according to a message that appeared when they attempted to hop on. Instagram users found their feeds would not load and they, too, couldn’t log in.

A message in a red box shared the Facebook site is down — but should be back shortly.

“Facebook is down for required maintenance right now, but you should be able to get back on within a few minutes.”

“Thanks for your patience as we improve the site,” the message reads.

While the message on some users’ page said they would be able to access the site “in a few minutes,” others saw a message saying they would have restored access “in a few hours.”

Users also reported issues making comments on posts, along with other various messages showing the site was experiencing problems.

“Oops. Something went wrong. We’re working on getting it fixed as soon as we can,” one message read.

Some users also shared they were unable to access Facebook’s Messenger platform.

Instagram users reported issues loading their feeds, and also had problems logging into their accounts.

“Error. We’re sorry, but something went wrong. Please try again,” a notification would read.

Whatsapp users also shared they were having problems — but it was unclear exactly what caused the global outage.

A Facebook spokesperson shared a statement with The News:

“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”

Around 3:00 p.m., Facebook tweeted they were still working to fix the problems, but could “confirm that the issue is not related to a DDoS attack.”

A DDoS — or distributed denial of service — is when a network is intentionally made inaccessible to users, according to the The National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center
