Sean (Diddy) Combs delivered a moving eulogy at ex Kim Porter’s funeral Saturday, remembering the actress and model as the rock that helped keep his world together.
“I can’t put our relationship into a certain box. She always told me she felt like god sent her here to help me out,” Combs said, according to audio obtained by TMZ. “I didn’t really understand how to love… And she just really started breaking down the exterior of any shell that I’d put up.”
The media mogul reportedly spoke for 15 minutes, and spoke slowly, pausing at times as his voice grew heavy with emotion.
“From the top of the year, I was going through a real dark time. I was really depressed… And she would just come over like, ‘Come on, Puff, you gotta get up, you gotta get off the bed,’” he recalled.
“As time went on, our relationship took so many different changes, from being boyfriend and girlfriend and being lovers to being best friends to being just straight homies like, somebody that you know you can count on. Somebody that has your back, you have their back.”
Combs, 49, and Porter dated on and off for more than a decade, and share three children: Christian, 20, and 11-year-old twin daughters D’Lila and Jessie. Combs also raised her 27-year-old son Quincy from a previous relationship, while Porter acted as a “second mom” to Combs’s children Justin and Chance.
In his eulogy, the rapper promised the children he would always be there for them, and reminded his daughters in particular that they could talk to him about anything.
Porter, 47, was laid to rest next to her mother in her hometown of Columbus, Ga. Saturday.
Mourners included Usher, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Kimora Lee Simmons and Tichina Arnold, who reportedly celebrated Porter’s life with a fireworks show above the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery lawn.
The model and actress died Nov. 15 after battling flu-like symptoms. An autopsy has been ordered to determine her cause of death.
Combs has remained in mourning since her death, and has shared nearly a dozen photos of Porter to Instagram remembering her as a devoted mother and his best friend and soulmate.
