A mandatory evacuation has been issued for all residents and businesses living downstream of Lake Tahoma in North Carolina.

According to emergency management officials, water has began spilling around the sides of the Lake Tahoma dam, prompting the urgent evacuation request.

With downpours in the forecast all week — and the record for May rainfall already broken — some parts of Western North Carolina are experiencing massive flooding.

At least two are dead and numerous mudslides been reported in the state as Subtropical Storm Alberto continues to rip though the south, threatening the region with flash flooding and severe weather conditions.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
