“Sex and the City” actress and failed gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon endorsed former Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito for Congress.
The failed candidate for governor, activist and “Sex and the City” star said Mark-Viverito is “exactly the kind of bold and unapologetic leader we need in Congress.”
“From standing up for the rights of NYCHA families to calling for the closure of Rikers, Melissa has never shied away from taking on the difficult issues,” Nixon said. “She understands that we need leaders who will fight for the people, not corporate donors, and has pledged not to take any real estate or corporate PAC money.”
Mark-Viverito backed Nixon when she ran against Gov. Cuomo in the 2018 Democratic primary.
She’s among 11 Democratic candidates for vying to represent New York’s 15th Congressional district in the Bronx, which will be vacated by Rep. José E. Serrano when he retires. The primary is June 23.
