Cowboys quarterback-turned NFL analyst Tony Romo to be a Dallas Maverick for a day: report

Tony Romo spent a long time playing football and tried his hand at golf. Now, before he hangs up his cleats — or sneakers — for good, he’s going to the NBA. Sort of.

The Mavericks plan to celebrate Romo by having the former quarterback in uniform and on their bench for their last home game of the season on Tuesday against the Nuggets, according to ESPN.

The team is willing to pull a stunt like this because the Mavericks have already been eliminated from playoff contention. However, Romo is not expected to play in the game.

Owner Mark Cuban has said in recent days that he was looking to add a “pass-first point guard,” according to the report, and apparently was referring to Romo.

The former QB has been an ardent supporter of the Mavericks over the course of his 14-year career with the Cowboys.

Romo, 36, was recently released by the Cowboys and retired so he can take Phil Simms’ spot as the CBS’ top NFL analyst alongside Jim Nantz.
