A registered sex offender was chased off by parents from a California playground after he tried to run off with a child.

Marcus DeWitt, 29, tried to abduct two small children from a play area at the Rosetta Canyon Sports Park in Lake Elsinore Monday, police said.

DeWitt allegedly first grabbed a 3-year-old boy by the arm, but was unable to get him out of a “play apparatus,” according to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station.

He then picked up a 4-year-old boy and tried to flee, but was brought down by the boy’s parents and other family members.

After losing hold of the boy, DeWitt tried to flee again, but was “subdued” by a family member.

Witnesses detained DeWitt until officers arrived and took him into custody.

Neither of the children were harmed, police said, and both are safely back with their families.

DeWitt has been charged with kidnapping and is being held on $1 million bail.
