Bigoted stranger threatens to punch Asian woman on Tribeca street

A bigoted stranger threatened to punch an Asian woman on a Manhattan street, police said Thursday.

The 47-year-old victim was accosted on Hudson and Desbrosses Sts. in Tribeca about 9:30 a.m. April 1, cops said.

The assailant muttered something but all the victim could make out was the word “Asian.” He then aggressively raised his fist at her. She ran off before he could strike her, police said.

The troubling incident is part of a surge in hate crimes involving Asian New Yorkers. Police earlier this week said 66 Asians have been target this year, compared to 12 by this time last year.

Cops released surveillance images of the suspect Thursday and asked the public’s help identifying him and tracking him down. He is described as having a medium complexion, blue eyes, salt-and-pepper hair and a beard and mustache.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
