Ben Affleck says he loves his sprawling back tattoo despite the negative feedback toward it

The negative feedback to Ben Affleck’s sprawling phoenix tattoo hasn’t ruffled the actor’s feathers.

Affleck acknowledged that the general reaction to the massive ink covering his back has not been positive, but he told TV host Ellen DeGeneres he likes the tattoo and says it “represents something meaningful” to him.

“It’s not something that I sort of kept private,” he said on Thursday’s episode of “Ellen.” “It wasn’t like I was sort of doing photoshoots or whatever. We were two hours north of the city in some island in Hawaii and we didn’t know the paparazzi was there. So they got a picture of my tattoo. And yeah, the sentiment ran, you know, against.”

Photos of the eye-popping ink emerged in December 2015, and Affleck said several months later on “Extra” that the tattoo was “fake for a movie.”

But he confirmed last year that the artwork is indeed real.

He told DeGeneres that he’s “happy” with the tattoo — even after the host joked that it shows a phoenix “rising from (his) ass.”
