Crowded Barcelona beaches were closed down by cops on Saturday as Spain looks to stamp out a spike in coronavirus cases.
Authorities blocked beach entry points and issued guidance over loudspeakers urging people on the shore to disperse, The Associated Press reported.
Spain was hit hard by the pandemic in March and April, and it has logged more than 28,000 coronavirus deaths.
The outbreak seemed to have abated in the country throughout June, but a recent uptick has sent officials scrambling.
Spain’s northeastern Catalonia region, home to Barcelona, recorded more than 1,200 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, according to The AP.
Overall, Spain has tallied more than 260,000 coronavirus cases during the pandemic.
