British artist Banksy is notorious for making profound statements about art, now an American plans to do the same.

Ron English, an artist based in the U.S. who bought the Banksy street piece “Slave Labour,” which depicts a child squatting by a sewing machine while creating Union Jack flags, made the purchase in 2013. The work was painted on the outside of a London shop wall in 2012 but was eventually removed and sold at auction.

English was the successful bidder, forking over $730,000 for the work, but now he wishes to whitewash it to protest the market in street art “for my good pal Banksy,” reported Press Association.

“I’m going to paint over it and just include it in one of the walls in my house,” said English. “We’re tired of people stealing our stuff off the streets and reselling it so I’m just going to buy everything I can get my hands on and whitewash it.”

But there seems to be more madness to English than method by adding he plans to sell the painted-over image for $1 million.

“I’m crazy but I’m not stupid,” said English.

This latest ploy comes just six weeks after Banksy’s “Girl with a Balloon” was sold for $1.4 million at auction. Moments after the auction ended, the artwork started self-destructing through a hidden shredder in the picture frame.

It’s unclear if Banksy, who has never revealed his true identity, was present at the auction, but an image of the tattered work was posted on his Instagram account with the caption: “Going, going gone…”

The unidentified winner of the auction went through with the purchase.
