The unnamed man was fired after being reported the following day.

His actions at Walden Grove High School violated the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s code of ethics, according to NBC News.

The official made the allegedly racist remark to the visiting team’s coach.

The visiting team, from Pueblo High School in Tuscon, has a student body consisting of approximately 90% Latinos, according to the US News & World Report.

“Most of the boys had never witnessed or been involved in this type of racism,” Patricia Coleman, a mother of one of the players told the Arizona Daily Star.

AIA’s Brian Gessner said the basketball official “admitted to making an inappropriate comment” and was dismissed.

“We don’t tolerate that type of behavior,” Gessner said.

According to the AIA’s Code of Ethics, officials must “carry a responsibility to act in a manner becoming to a professional person. The conduct of any official influences the attitudes of the public toward the profession in general as well as toward the official in particular.”
