An American man has died after attending the electronic music festival Ultra in Croatia.

The unidentified 26-year-old man was in the city of Split last weekend for the gathering before he was hospitalized on Saturday, according to local media.

Police said that he died on Sunday, though no exact cause was given pending an autopsy.

The U.S. State Department confirmed the death to the Daily News, and said that “we extend our sincere condolences to friends and family. The U.S. Embassy in Croatia is providing consular assistance.”

The exact circumstances of the man’s death are unknown, and the organizers of Ultra did not respond to a request for comment.

Deaths at electronic music festivals all over the world have become a grim tradition in the summer months, with concerns both about use of drugs coupled with worries about attendees’ access to water.

Temperatures in Split this weekend reached above 30 degrees Celsius, or 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

More than 100,000 attendees regularly attend the European version of Ultra, which also holds a major annual event in Miami, with this year’s lineup led by Afrojack and Armin Van Buuren.
