A would-be robber who attempted a daring heist at Las Vegas’ Bellagio hotel and casino Friday night is dead.

The unidentified man tried to stick up a poker cage at the fancy casino, located on the Las Vegas Strip, but fled after authorities arrived, stated Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Capt. Nichole Splinter.

After bolting from the casino, the suspect immediately attempted to carjack a vehicle at the valet station but was stormed by four cops, said Splinter.

The suspect then blasted at least one shot into the chest of an officer, police said.

A second officer then returned fire, which struck the suspect. The shot cop was wearing a bulletproof vest, “which probably saved his life,” Splinter said.

The cop was treated for his injury and later released, police said.

The suspect had been in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries hours later, said cops.

There were two robberies at the Bellagio in 2017. In March of that year, three men donning animal masks and wielding sledgehammers smashed their way into a luxury jewelry shop before at least one of those suspects was nabbed, reported ABC News.

And in November 2017, in a robbery similar to the one Friday night, a man dashed off with an unspecified amount of cash from a poker cage. He has yet to be caught.
