A woman in India has proved that age is just a number and may have broken a world record after giving birth for the first time at the age of 74.

Mangayamma Yaramati conceived the twin girls through in-vitro fertilization and delivered them Thursday via Caesarean section, according to reports.

She underwent treatment last year at Ahalya Hospital in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh after nearly six decades of marriage with her husband, who’s in his 80s.

“The mother and the babies are doing well,” her doctor told BBC Telugu.

Several news outlets have reported the woman’s age as 73, but her birth certificate says 74, according to The Washington Post.

Regardless, doctors say she’s likely the oldest person in the world to give birth. In 2016, a 72-year-old Indian woman gave birth to a boy after undergoing an IVF cycle, The Times of India reported at the time.

Yaramati said she and her husband felt stigmatized in their village for being childless.

“We tried many times and saw numerous doctors,” she told BBC. “So this is the happiest time of my life.”
