Tony Award winner André De Shields, others tapped for ‘Ballots Over Broadway’ voter-focused benefit concert

Tony Award-winning Broadway veteran André De Shields is among the talent tapped for an upcoming voter-focused benefit concert.

The “Hadestown” star will join fellow Tony winners Lara Benanti, Jessie Mueller, Santino Fontana, Andy Karl and Emmy Award winner Bradford Anderson for the “Ballots Over Broadway” event, which will be livestreamed Aug. 7 at 8 p.m. EDT.

Hosted by “The Voice’s” Chris Mann, the virtual event, will support Higher Heights for America’s work mobilizing and electing Black women, and Field Team 6's efforts registering and empowering Democratic voters around the country, particularly in battleground states.

According to its website, Higher Heights for America is the only national organization providing Black women with a political home exclusively dedicated to harnessing their power to expand Black women’s elected representation and voting participation, and advance progressive policies.

Field Team 6 , with a mission to “register Democrats and save the world,” is an organization that focuses on empowering Democrat voters in underrepresented areas.

The lineup of performers during the live Zoom concert include Olivier Award nominee Jared Gertner, Broadway powerhouse Orfeh, “Hamilton’s Sabrina Sloan, Tony nominee John Tartaglia, “The Wiz’s Shanice Williams, “American Idol” finalist Tamyra Gray, “Dear White People’s Daheli Hall, and the cast of the show “Hash(tag) America.”

Presented by Feminists in Action, “Ballots Over Broadway” will be a ticketed event with users being granted to the recording of the event via link.
