Teacher stole $8,000 in scientific equipment from NYC school: cops
A city teacher spent the first day of class behind bars Thursday after she was accused of swiping $8,000 in scientific school supplies from a Queens school, officials said.
Sherran Fields, 44, is allegedly took several “science bundles” — education supplies, worksheets and teacher resources — used by sixth and seventh grade students at Intermediate School 59 on Ridgedale St. in St. Albans on Aug. 21, cops said.
She put the stolen goods in her car without permission from the school principal and never returned them, according to police.
Police arrested Fields Wednesday evening after the city Department of Education filed a criminal complaint against her.
She made $104,000 with the Education Department last year, according to the website SeeThroughNY.
Her arraignment in Queens Criminal Court was pending Thursday.
An email to the Education Department for comment was not immediately returned.
