Suspicious package with white powder at Ohio Air Force base causes 3 people to receive medical attention

Three people at an Air Force base near Dayton, Ohio, were taken to a medical center Wednesday after coming into contact with a suspicious package with an undisclosed white powder inside, officials said.

They were treated out of “an abundance of caution” following the incident at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and tests run on the powder later determined that the substance was not hazardous, according to a news release from the base.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene at about 8:45 a.m. local time to look into the package in the base’s mailroom.

The three people who came into “direct contact” with the package were then taken to a medical center at the base, which is standard protocol, officials said. They have since been released.

An investigation into the situation remains active.

The area at the center of the incident was initially closed off as specialized personnel trained to deal with hazardous substances looked into the situation, but the scene has since been reopened.
