A state trooper’s good deed almost ended in tragedy in Ohio over the weekend.
Shocking dashcam footage released Monday by the Ohio State Highway Patrol shows a U-Haul truck sideswiping a cruiser and almost striking a trooper who had pulled over to help a driver change her tire.
The accident happened on the Ohio Turnpike in front of a large roadway sign that reads, “MOVE OVER FOR STOPPED VEHICLES WITH FLASHING LIGHTS.”
JUST RELEASED: Dash-cam footage of trooper’s cruiser being struck. The trooper was changing a tire on a disabled vehicle on the Ohio Turnpike, when a U-haul truck went off the roadway striking his cruiser. Always remember to #moveover for the flashing lights! The trooper noticed the U-Haul truck approaching and even signaled with his hands to get the driver’s attention, but the vehicle quickly crashed on the cruiser and barely missed the disabled car in front of it.
The video shows the trooper running out of the way and jumping over a guardrail to avoid being hit. The woman whose car was disabled was searching for something inside her vehicle and didn’t even see the truck approaching.
Police said the U-Haul driver, who did not stop at the scene, was caught a short time later and no one was injured in the accident.
“Always remember to #moveover for the flashing lights! It’s the law!” authorities urged in social media posts this week.
