A city Department of Education employee assigned to work with special needs children has been arrested for repeatedly sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl at a Brooklyn school, officials said Friday.
Substitute para-professional Kevin Lemon, 28, was arrested Friday for the attacks, which took place last year in a Bedford Stuyvesant school, cops said.
The victim was not one of Lemon’s students, but the child said the para would see her in the hallways and bring her down to the basement, where he would sexually abuse her.
The abuse ended in June when the school year ended, officials said. When classes began again earlier this month, the child saw Lemon and, fearing renewed attacks, told her grandmother about the assaults.
The grandmother reported the incident to cops at the 79th Precinct, who began an investigation.
Cops arrested Lemon on Friday night, charging him with multiple counts of committing a criminal sex act, sex abuse, sexual misconduct, forcible touching and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
Lemon is a part time para professional responsible for monitoring and helping special needs students. He earned roughly $20,000 from the DOE last year, according to the website seethroughny.net.
An email to the DOE for comment was not immediately returned.
