Joe Judge's first decision on his new Giants coaching staff reflects well on his decision-making at the helm.
Judge is retaining Giants incumbent Thomas McGaughey as special teams coordinator, the Daily News has confirmed.
Judge knows special teams, as that's the unit he has coordinated since 2015 for the New England Patriots.
McGaughey is popular with the players, and most importantly, he turned the Giants' special teams around 180 degrees when he arrived in 2018 with since-fired head coach Pat Shurmur.
The Giants ranked dead last, 32nd in the NFL, among special teams units in 2017, per Pro Football Focus. But in McGaughey's first season, they improved all the way to third. And they finished 13th this past year.
Judge’s press conference is at 2 p.m. and he could make announcements on the rest of his staff throughout the day. Stay here for more:
