Monument to mediocrity: a license plate contest with a just-okay ending

After a public contest between five awful options that were an embarrassment to the graphic design capital of the world, the public has overwhelmingly picked the least terrible looking new New York license plate on the menu, a clean enough looking design with Niagara Falls and the Gotham skyline running across the bottom.

Let there be high-fives all around that the plate featuring the Mario M. Cuomo Not Tappan Zee Bridge garnered less than 10% of votes.

Now, how about making sure the state prisoners who make the rectangles get more than 65 cents an hour? A bill in the state Legislature would up their wage to $3.
