Melania Trump sipped French wine — but her hubby stopped short of calling it a secret sign of a trade truce with the U.S.
After French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron said his country and the U.S. reached a deal on a 3% digital tax, a French reporter asked if the U.S. would drop its threats to slap tariffs on French wine.
President Trump, who does not drink alcohol, didn’t take the bait.
“I can confirm that the First Lady loved your French wine. Okay? She loved your French wine,” President Trump said with a smile.
The coy remark came second after Macron claimed the standoff over the internet tax has been solved.
Macron told reporters that companies that pay the tax would be able to deduct the amount under a new international tax deal.
“We have a deal to overcome the difficulties between us,” Macron said alongside Trump at the end of a G7 summit in southwestern France.
Trump had threatened to hit back with tariff action against French products including vino.
