A manhunt was underway in Washington D.C. Friday morning for at least two suspects armed with an AK-style rifle after one person was killed and another five injured in the courtyard of an apartment complex located about 2 miles away from the White House.
An alert issued by D.C. Metropolitan Police said authorities are searching for two male suspects in a light-colored Nissan. While the alleged gunmen remained at large hours after the incident, authorities told Reuters there is no active shooter situation at this time.

Officers found six adult victims – five men and one woman – all suffering from gunshot wounds when they responded to the Columbia Heights apartment building just after 10 p.m. They’d all been standing in a courtyard when they were struck by gunfire in what investigators suspect was a drive-by shooting, Metropolitan Police Commander Stuart Emerman told reporters during a press conference late Thursday.
One of the male victims died at the scene while the rest were transported to an area hospital with injuries ranging from critical to non-critical.
“Our detectives are continuing to interview individuals up here on the scene, as well as review camera footage we can find from the neighborhood,” Emerman said.
The deadly shooting is still under investigation and a motive in the incident remains unclear.
