Mango man hurls fruit at stranger before attacking him outside Bronx grocery

2019-09-21

A hard-hearted brute was caught on camera chucking a mango at a man inside a Bronx grocery before punching the alarmed shopper in the face.

Video of the unprovoked attack was released by cops Saturday in the hope someone recognizes the fruit thrower.

The victim, 57, told police he was inside the Best H&H Inc. grocery on White Plains Road near E. 237th St. in Wakefield about 3:20 a.m. Monday when the mango flew by, barely missing him.

When he went outside to investigate, the man who pitched the mango suddenly punched the victim in the face and ran off, cops said.

The victim suffered minor injuries to his head and face, and was treated and released at a nearby hospital.

Surveillance cameras posted outside the grocery recorded the assailant, who was wearing a white T-shirt, red sweat pants and a black baseball cap, pick the fruit up from a box of mangoes for sale, take aim and hurl the fruit through the open front door into the store.

A second man with the assailant also picks up a mango and is about to toss it into the store, but instead dumps it into another container of fruit, the video shows.

Cops are asking anyone with information to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
