Kennedy Airport AirTrain shuts down, stranding travelers heading to the airport

Kennedy Airport’s AirTrain suffered a brief system-wide shutdown early Wednesday, stranding several dozen travelers on stalled train cars and delaying trips to the airport, officials said.

The system-wide failure began about 5 a.m. and shut the trains down completely about 6:45 a.m.

Roughly 70 passengers were taken off two stalled AirTrains and brought to the nearest station where they were put on shuttle buses to JFK Airport.

Shuttle buses provided transportation for AirTrain riders until about 7:15 a.m., when limited service resumed.
