During his politically-minded acceptance speech Sunday, 46-year-old Phoenix — a nearly lifelong vegan who promotes animal rights — applauded the Globes’ host Hollywood Foreign Press Association for serving its first all-vegan menu.

In the hours after the show, Variety reported that Phoenix had actually suggested the menu update and helped to ultimately sway the HFPA.
