HEART OF STONE: Crook robs 89-year-old woman of $5,000 she was saving for her dead husband’s tombstone

A callous crook attacked an elderly woman and stole $5,000 from her Manhattan apartment — money she was saving to buy a headstone for her husband’s grave, police said.

Cops on Thursday released surveillance images of the mean-spirited mugger in the hopes that someone recognizes him.

The 89-year-old senior had just returned from a shopping trip and unlocked her E. 10th St. apartment near Ave. D about 11:45 a.m. Saturday when the suspect snuck up from behind and pushed her into the home, cops said.

“Where’s the money?” he screamed as he shoved the victim to the ground, police said. The woman told him there was money in her bedroom drawer and the suspect ran off with $5,000 in cash.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital for neck and back pain, and later released, cops said.

She told police the stolen cash had been set aside to buy a headstone for her husband who died two years ago, sources with knowledge of the case said.

The suspect is about 5-foot-8, 160-pounds with a full beard. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing blue jeans, a blue hoodie, blue T-shirt, white sneakers. He was also sporting a backpack and a black-and-blue Philadelphia Flyers baseball cap.

Anyone with information is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
