A former Miss Kentucky who admitted to trading sexually explicit texts with a 15-year-old former student while she was teaching in West Virginia was sentenced Tuesday to two years in prison.
Ramsey Bearse, 29, received the sentence in Kanawha County Circuit Court in West Virginia, according to The Associated Press.
Bearse nabbed the Miss Kentucky crown in 2014.
In December, she pleaded guilty to one count of possessing material depicting minors in sexually explicit conduct.
Authorities said Bearse used Snapchat to swap images with the student between August and October 2018.
Bearse said in court last year that she accidentally sent the student a “risqué photo” meant for her husband and continued to sext with the boy because “I was afraid to not appease him.”
“Since I am the adult, and he was just a teenager, it was definitely my fault, and I accept the full blame for the situation,” she said. “So that’s how I’m guilty of this crime. I messed up big-time.”
