Billionaire Tom Steyer has qualified for the Democratic presidential debate in October, his campaign said Sunday.
That makes him candidate no. 11 to meet the two requirements to participate: raising campaign contributions from 130,000 people and scoring at least 2% support from Democratic voters in four separate polls.
The poll that pushed Steyer over the line came out Sunday from CBS and YouGov. It found 11% of Nevada Dems supporting Steyer, a former hedge fund manager who gained some prominence for calling for President Trump’s impeachment.
“It’s now more clear than ever that Tom’s message is resonating with Americans across the country,” campaign manager Heather Hargreaves said in a statement quoted by CNN.
For his part, de Blasio recently said he might drop out of the race if he doesn’t qualify for the Oct. 15 debate. He was on a mysterious trip to Puerto Rico with no “official” events scheduled on Sunday.
