Beverly Johnson is back in love again.
The 67-year-old supermodel, who swore off another marriage, has announced her engagement to financier Brian Maillian.
But the third time may be a charm for the first Black woman to grace the cover of American Vogue, who was married twice before, in 1971 to real estate agent Billy Potter and in 1977 to music producer Danny Sims.
“I was like how the heck did that happen?” she told People of the engagement. “I was saying I’m never going to get married again.”
Johnson said her new man marks the first time she she's ever dated someone so close to her age.
Maillian is 70.
"We know the same songs and we've lived through a lot of the same things," she told People. "As I was breaking boundaries in the fashion industry, he was doing the same on Wall Street."
According to his LinkedIn profile, Maillian is the chairman and CEO of WhiteStone Global Partners LLC.
Maillian unexpectedly popped the question to Johnson during a family event in Palm Springs, Calif.
She revealed that “Brian’s 88-year-old mother took off her wedding ring and passed it down the table till it got to Brian and he got down on one knee. I was sobbing uncontrollably and he said ‘Will you marry me?’ and I said yes!”
His mother allowed the beauty to wear the ring for the rest of the day and Johnson did return it.
Instead of splashing out on bling, the savvy businesswoman said that instead of a diamond ring, she asked her fiancé to buy a house instead, which is what they ended up doing.
The couple reside in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
“Just finding the love of my life at this point in my life has been amazing,” she adds.
